WWE legend Chyna has died, in a post to her verified Facebook account, a member of her management broke the news that has stunned her fans around the world.
Here’s the full statement shared by her management online:
“It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero. Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, the 9th wonder of the world has passed away. She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her.
Chyna whose real name is Joanie Laurer had struggled with addiction for years and appeared on ‘Celebrity Rehab’ in 2008. TMZ reports she was in her apartment in Redondo Beach, CA just south of L.A. when police got the call around 7:30 PM. Law enforcement sources say she had not been seen or heard from for a few days. And a friend went to check on her yesterday and found her unresponsive in the bedroom of her home and made the call to police.
They are investigating it as a possible overdose due mainly to her history with drugs. Plus prescription drugs were found at the scene, though there were no illegal drugs.
Just earlier this week, Chyna shared a very troubling video on her YouTube channel that showed she was clearly struggling. The video is difficult to watch.
She leaves behind a legacy in the professional wrestling world that will be unmatched. Chyna has appeared in Playboy magazine twice, and appeared in numerous television shows and movies. But still to this day, she is one of the most well know female superstars in the history of professional wrestling.
Rest in peace, Chyna!
