Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is known as the very best in cleaning a kitchen or a bathroom when it has hard to get rid of stains. If your bathroom or any other parts of your home get dirty, all you have to do is grab the magic eraser and make the stain disappear.
The Magic Eraser is not a great economical choice because it’s not cheap. Even though it’s available at $1, that’s only for one. As you already know, it can either break apart or fall to pieces especially after a few minutes of extreme cleaning. It may get rid of single blemish on your kitchen, but it cannot remove huge stains because it just doesn’t last long. In fact, you can use the four pieces in one pack without getting much done. In other words, the product is not great on your wallet.
If you’re like most people and have the same problem with the price of Magic Erasers, then we are here to help. We are going to show you how to make your own Magic Eraser at home for cheap. Don’t worry about the quality, these DIY Magic Erasers can stand up to any challenge. You can take the Pepsi challenge with our Magic Erasers vs. the expensive ones in the store.
Melanin Sponge – yeah, it’s literally just a sponge
The folks over at Mr. Clean would like for you to believe that years of product testing went into finding the perfect sponge for the job. Maybe they spent years in the lab getting just the right formulation for this magical cleaning sponge. But that’s just not the case. The truth is it’s just pieces of melamine foam with some cleaner inside.
Keep in mind, it’s not the cleaner inside that makes them so impressive, it’s the material of the sponge. Melamine sponge is denser than most sponges and all the tiny little pores in the sponge make it slightly abrasive, just like an extra fine sandpaper.
Want to know the best part? You can get melamine sponges, almost identical to the ones from Mr. Clean on eBay and other online retailers in bulk. You can get a pack of 100 fur just $7.99 delivered. They will be a bit smaller than the originals, but you can get 100 for the same price as an eight-pack of the real Magic Erasers.
Step by step instructions on how to make your own Magic Eraser
When you get your sponges, and you’re ready to make some Magic Erasers, you will need to whip up the cleaner that goes in the sponges. What could these magical cleaning solutions be you ask? Well, all you need is two common cleaning solutions: borax and baking soda. (And it doesn’t take very much of each.)
How to get the sponges ready:
- Warm up half a cup of water in a bowl or Pyrex measuring cup.
- Next, add 1 teaspoon of borax and 1 tablespoon of baking soda to the bowl of warm water. Stir the borax and baking soda together in the water.
- Put the sponge in the bowl and let it soak up the borax, baking soda solution. This should only take a minute.
- Last step. Squeeze out all the excess solution and begin scrubbing. That’s it.
Now you have 100 Magic Erasers that you can make in less than two minutes for around $0.10 a piece. Keep in mind these are made of the same material as the real Magic Erasers so they won’t last very long. But at a fraction of the price, it’s a little easier to stomach the cost.
Be sure to share this with your friends so they can make their own Magic Erasers too.
